Formaldehyde-releasing biocides (FA-R) are industrial biocides used in paints, adhesives and concrete admixtures. They are mainly a bactericide but have some efficacy against fungal organisms at higher dosages. The mode of action for FA-R is that they release formaldehyde, which then reacts with nucleic acids and amino acids in the cell.
