All mixtures of chemical formulations in the humid state are susceptible to attack by yeasts, fungus or bacteria, Contamination occurs in the majority of cases from the environmental exposure or from an existing contaminated substrate or product. All formulators need to be aware of and avoid microbiological contamination and therefore require some form of in product preservative to provide protection during the manufacturing and storage processes and an extended protection to the final product once it has been used or applied.
